Functional Safety Engineer - Robotics (f/m/d)

Your role

You will be a member of the functional safety team whose task is to understand and analyze the certification requirements for a wide variety of robotic based system products up to and including collaborative industrial and medical solutions.


Your Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the necessary safety assessments and in close collaboration with other development teams (e.g. embedded systems). 
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for safety-related projects 
  • Create safety concepts, carry out risk assessments, and write requirements on all system levels 
  • Support specification and documentation of architecture at system, hardware, and software levels 
  • Support the development of processes that comply with relevant functional safety norms 
  • Interact with relevant external notified bodies (e.g. TÜV) 
  • Support the development, verification, and testing of safety relevant functions 
  • Coordinate assessments from external certification authorities 
  • Contribute to internal change and configuration management 
  • Communication and co-ordination across system, software and hardware teams  
Your experience & qualifications
Essential Skills
  • Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field 
  • At least three years of experience with functional safety preferable in industrial robotics 
  • Sound knowledge of the safety standards for machines (e.g. ISO 10218, ISO 13849, ISO/TS 15066) and of the machinery directive 
  • Experience with functional safety standards (e.g. ISO 13849, IEC 61508) and their integration into the development process (e.g. tool qualification, testing) 
  • Experience with the creation and review of safety relevant system and software architectures 
  • Experience in safety analysis of the system, software and hardware design (FMEA/FMEDA, PFH calculation, etc.) 
  • Experience in working with external certification authorities, such as TÜV 
  • Familiarity with quality management, configuration management, and product lifecycle 
  • Motivated to collaborate and take on diverse responsibilities 
  • Fluent English skills, German language skills are a plus 
Beneficial Skills
  • Experience in functional safety management 
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks (e.g. LDRA, Unity) 
  • Common coding guidelines (e.g. MISRA) 
  • Knowledge of communication protocols like FSoE, CAN, Ethercat etc.
